Consulting

Kim provides CBT and narrative-informed support to anyone navigating life’s challenges, with particular depth in the following areas

Consulting that comes from the field, not just the literature.

Most consultants bring frameworks. I bring frameworks and 35 years of frontline nursing experience to back them up.

I’ve worked in resource-pressured nursing environments that shape how nurses practise across Ontario. I understand what the research says about nursing leadership, curriculum, wellbeing, and rural workforce retention and what happens when those findings meet the complexity of real organizations.

KECC consulting partnerships are tailored, relational, and grounded in a commitment to the people most affected by the decisions organizations make.

Who I Partner With

I work with

  • Nursing schools and post-secondary health education programs
  • Healthcare organizations, health authorities, and regional health networks
  • Rural, remote, and Indigenous health services
  • Professional associations and regulatory bodies
  • Community-based health programs and non-profit organizations
  • Research teams and graduate programs in nursing and health education

If your organization is navigating leadership challenges, curriculum renewal, workforce
pressures, or questions about how to better support the nurses you depend on — let’s
talk.

Areas of Consulting Focus

Leadership Development

  • Who this is for: Healthcare organizations, nursing programs, and health teams looking to build leadership capacity at every level, from charge nurses and preceptors to directors and deans.
  • What we’ll do: We’ll work together to identify leadership gaps, design development pathways, and build the internal capacity your organization needs to sustain strong nursing leadership over time. This includes one-to-one leadership coaching, group facilitation, workshop design, and program development for informal and formal leaders.
  • What changes: Leaders who are more confident, more relational, and better equipped to navigate the moral and systemic complexity of healthcare. Teams that trust their leadership and feel supported enough to stay.

Curriculum Development & Redesign

  • Who this is for: Nursing schools, colleges, universities, and continuing education programs seeking to build, revise, or decolonize curriculum, including programs serving internationally educated nurses (IENs) and Indigenous learners.
  • What we’ll do: I bring doctoral-level expertise in curriculum design alongside deep clinical and regulatory knowledge. We’ll review existing curriculum against current competency frameworks, identify gaps and misalignments, and co-develop learning experiences that are culturally safe, trauma-informed, and pedagogically sound. I have particular expertise in equity, diversity, inclusion, and humility (EDIH) integration; Universal Design for Learning (UDL); and curriculum development for non-traditional and internationally educated learners.
  • What changes: Curriculum that is current, coherent, and equitable designed for the learners you actually have, not a hypothetical student. Faculty who feel confident teaching it. Learners who feel seen by it.

Rural Nursing Consultation

  • Who this is for: Health authorities, regional health networks, rural hospitals, and community health programs working to attract, prepare, support, and retain nurses in rural, remote, and underserved settings.
  • What we’ll do: Drawing on over three decades of nursing practice, doctoral research on rural nursing experience in Ontario, and active scholarship, I offer consulting that goes well beyond generic rural health frameworks. We’ll work on workforce strategy, scope of practice navigation, rural-specific orientation and onboarding, and the systemic and cultural factors that shape whether nurses choose to stay.
  • What changes: Organizations with a clearer understanding of why rural nurses leave, and a concrete, contextually grounded plan for changing that. Rural nursing roles that attract the right people and support them to thrive.

Nurse Wellbeing & Retention

  • Who this is for: Healthcare organizations grappling with burnout, turnover, moral distress, compassion fatigue, and the downstream organizational costs of not supporting nursing staff well enough.
  • What we’ll do: I offer organizational assessment, program design, and implementation support for nurse wellbeing initiatives that go beyond surface-level self-care messaging. This includes the full deployment of The Wellness Shift®, my nurse-led, evidence- informed organizational wellbeing program, as well as bespoke consulting on psychological safety, moral distress mitigation, and the conditions that allow nurses to sustain meaningful, long-term practice.
  • What changes: Measurable improvements in nurse satisfaction, reduced turnover intent, and a culture that treats wellbeing as an organizational responsibility — not an individual one.

The Wellness Shift®

A nurse-led organizational wellbeing program.

The Wellness Shift® is my signature program for healthcare organizations, a structured,
cohort-based intervention designed for nursing teams and workplaces navigating the
aftermath of acute harm, chronic moral distress, or the kind of slow institutional erosion
that most organizations don’t notice until it’s showing up in their exit interviews.

Built on the R.E.S.I.L.I.E.N.T. Framework and delivered by nurses who understand the
culture of healthcare from the inside, The Wellness Shift® addresses what EAP
programs, mandatory training, and wellness apps consistently miss: the relational,
systemic, and identity-level dimensions of organizational injury.

    Three delivery streams:

    • Acute Workplace Harm Recovery: for teams following critical incidents, systemic failures, or institutional betrayal
    • Rural & Remote Nursing: tailored for the specific stressors of geographically isolated practice, including professional isolation, scope creep, and limited peer support
    • Informal Leadership Development: for charge nurses, preceptors, and emerging leaders navigating influence without formal authority

    Delivery options:

    • Full organizational engagement with scoping, implementation, and evaluation support
    • Licensed program for health authorities and educational institutions building internal capacity
    • Hybrid delivery (in-person and virtual) across Ontario and beyond

The Wellness Shift® is currently available for organizational partnership inquiry. Contact me to discuss scope, fit, and next steps.

    How I Work With Organizations

Every consulting engagement begins with listening. I don’t arrive with a pre-packaged solution looking for a problem to fit; I arrive with deep expertise, genuine curiosity, and a commitment to understanding your specific context before I recommend anything.

My consulting practice is grounded in:

    • Relational accountability: clear agreements, honest communication, and genuine investment in your outcomes
    • Equity and decolonization: I centre the experiences of those most affected by systems, including Indigenous nurses, internationally educated nurses, and nurses in rural and underserved settings
    • Evidence and experience in equal measure: I draw on current nursing science and decades of frontline knowledge
    • Sustainability: I build internal capacity wherever possible, so the work continues after our engagement ends

Consulting engagements are available as one-time consultations, project-based
partnerships, and ongoing retainer arrangements. All engagements begin with a scoping conversation at no charge.
