About

35 years of nursing. One practice. Built from the inside out.

I’m Dr. Kim English, nurse, educator, counsellor, coach, and consultant. I’ve spent the better part of four decades advocating for supports for nurses who work in the places that are hardest to reach and hardest to resource: rural hospitals, remote fly-in communities, nursing schools navigating impossible demands, and health systems that ask too much and offer too little in return.

I built KECC because I kept meeting the same person, the nurse who had given everything and didn’t know where to go next. The professional who’d been silenced or sidelined and couldn’t find support that understood their world. The organization that knew something was broken but didn’t have the language or the framework to fix it.

This practice is my answer to that gap.

MY STORY

Where I Come From

I grew up in the kind of community where everyone knew the nurse by name — because she was often the only one for miles. That’s the world that shaped me, and it’s the world I’ve spent my career trying to serve better.

I’ve worked as a bedside nurse, a community health nurse, a nurse educator, and a nursing professor. I’ve held clinical roles, advocated for rural nursing at a national level through the Canadian Association of Rural and Remote Nurses (CARRN), and at a global level.

My doctoral research, “Voices from the Margins,” used narrative inquiry and digital storytelling to explore the experiences of rural nurses and nursing students in Ontario. It affirmed what I’d always suspected: that the stories nurses carry are some of the most important stories in our healthcare system, and that those stories are not being heard.

That conviction runs through everything I do at KECC.

MY APPROACH

How I Work

My practice is relational, trauma-informed, and deeply respectful of the knowledge you already carry. I don’t believe in fixing people — I believe in creating conditions where people can find their own way forward, with the right support alongside them.

In counselling

I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and somatic awareness. I work at your pace, toward goals that matter to you. I hold space for complexity — the kind that doesn’t resolve neatly and doesn’t need to.

In coaching

I work from your strengths, your values, and your vision. Coaching with me is future-focused and action-oriented — a dedicated space to think clearly, plan intentionally, and move toward what you actually want.

In consulting

I bring both scholarly rigour and frontline credibility. I’ve been in the rooms where decisions get made and in the rooms where those decisions land — and I understand the gap between them. My consulting work is grounded in equity, relational accountability, and an unflinching commitment to the people most affected by systems change.

Across all of it

I am committed to Indigenous health equity, to Two-Eyed Seeing (Etuaptmumk) as a guiding framework for knowledge and care, and to decolonizing approaches in nursing education and practice. This  is foundational to how I understand health, relationship, and responsibility.

WHY KECC

I’ve been in the system long enough to know what it asks of people — and what it rarely gives back. The expectation that nurses will absorb everything, adapt to everything, and somehow find their own way through is one of the most persistent failures of healthcare culture.

KECC is my attempt to offer something different. Not another program that treats nurses as a resource to be managed. A practice that treats nurses — and the people who care for them, consult with them, and learn from them — as full human beings with complex needs, real wisdom, and the right to support that meets them where they are.

Whether you come to me as an individual, a professional, or an organization, my commitment is the same: to show up with everything I know, and to help you find what you’re looking for.
